Why make helmets?

Orbea wants to extend its experience to other bike-related products, so that cyclists and bikers can benefit from our sensitivity and know-how. This is not just another helmet. It’s a helmet by Orbea, a prestige brand on the professional scene. We’ve put all our engineering expertise and in-depth knowledge of the cycling world into this new product, and it represents another step forward in the strategy we began many years ago creating solutions for cycling fans, multi-sport athletes and mountain bikers. In short, it is for anyone who shares Orbea’s sound, healthy way of looking at life. These are people our future products will be made for. We’re a step closer to the future now.

Orbea Design

Orbea Design is based on what we consider the four essential elements of bicycle design: the riders, the state-of-the-art technology, the creation process and the trends. The logo we have chosen for Orbea Design explains it perfectly: each of these concepts is a key feature of the way we work.

The design of our bicycles totally complies with our design concepts. We have taken inspiration from nature, developing our helmet designs according to a natural concept and organic design.

Birds are the species that have best evolved within their environment: the air. They represent the natural evolution of aerodynamics, and for us, their evolution and their adaptation are reflected in our organic wind tunnel.

It’s not just a question of appearance: as with the evolution of species, we aspire to a design that will really give the maximum performance.

Orbea TC Technology

We have developed a layer-by-layer construction technology for our helmets that enables us to optimise the helmet’s features: appearance, ventilation and compactness.

Each helmet is built using a certain number of layers, and a specific material is chosen for each layer according to its features.

The more layers there are, enables the surface area of the helmet to be reduced, providing it with better ventilation and a more compact structure.

This design optimisation can only be achieved through a combination of shapes, construction technology and materials.

  • Odin - 4 layers: polycarbonate, carbon fibre, EPS and nylon.
  • Thor - 3 layers: polycarbonate, EPS and nylon
  • Rune - 2 layers: polycarbonate and EPS.
  • Ari - 2 layers: polycarbonate and EPS.

Retention System

The retention system that holds the structure of the helmet to the cyclist’s head needs to ensure comfort and good moisture absorption, and avoid any pressure points

To achieve this we have developed a retention system with the following main characteristics:

  • Retention system independent from helmet straps.
  • Dual injection retention system.
  • COOLMAX fabric pad system.
  • Ergonomic adjustment system.
  • Rubber support surface for a smoother feel.
  • Winter Kit: a kit consisting of pads and an inner liner for winter use (sold separately)
